Horned Puffin

A Horned Puffin is a rare site in Haida Gwaii, research has shown that there are only 60 nesting pairs in the misty isles. We were in Port Chanal on the West Coast when we came across this majestic looking bird. A trophy for any birder in the Gwaii. The typical puffin here is the tufted puffin. An awesome sight and a sweet photo since I rarely see them .

Buck Channel Black Bear

Black Bear are roaming Haida Gwaii in all corners. Some of the biggest come from the islands. This one was large and I spooked it walking a creek in Buck Channel. He was feeding and I almost stepped on his head going over a log as he feasted on a Chum salmon. He back off, I backed off and he sat not wanting to give up his fishing hole. He can have it. I took a picture or two and headed back downstream. Nice looking bear!
